Local Communities in a Global Context
Conceived as an archive, this book documents the experience of "Frequencies," a global participatory project initiated in 2013 by multimedia artist Oscar Murillo. "Frequencies" reconsiders the concept of community from the process of its formation, as part of Murillo's multimedia expression.
For over a decade, Murillo's family, studio team, and collaborators have visited schools around the world, attaching raw canvases to classroom desks, allowing students to write and draw freely on them for approximately six months. Murillo has collected these canvases as an archive and presented them in various interactive exhibitions.
This elegant book features a flat-opening binding, a book jacket, and a carefully crafted slipcase.
Oscar Murillo (born 1986, La Paila, Colombia) has developed ambitious works in a wide range of expressions, including painting, collaborative projects, video, sound, and installations. He received an MFA from the Royal College of Art in 2012 and was a co-recipient of the prestigious Turner Prize in 2019, along with four other artists.
