Rare Vintage SR-71 Blackbird Pair Brass Plaque DET ONE 9 SRW OUR THANKS Rare vintage original period Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird brass "Our Thanks" plaque that were made sometime between 1968 and 1990 for crew members of DET ONE 9 SRW ( Detachment One, Ninth Strategic Reconnaissance Wing) Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, either for rotation or promotion. The retirement of the fleet of SR-71 aircraft from the USAF was in 1990. The plaque is emblazoned in high relief image of the SR-71 Blackbird aircraft in the center. with the words embossed "DET ONE 9 SRW OUR THANKS".
The plaque measures approx. 10 1/4" wide by 1" deep. Heavy thick brass. Nice original patina. Great condition. The magnificent SR-71 Blackbird, known worldwide as the Habu. The first SR-71 arrived at Kadena Air Base on 9 Mrarch 1968 and the last aircraft departed on 21 January 1990. Throughout those twenty-two years, the Habu roamed Pacific skies unchallenged in war and peace to insure the freedom of the United States & her allies
