Vintage, "Philmore Open Type Crystal Detector", Cat. No. 7003,
which is a historical electronic component used in early radio receivers.
This "cat's whisker" detector was one of the first semiconductor devices, used to convert AC radio signals to DC for audio production.
It consists of a crystalline mineral and a fine wire probe that touches a "hot spot" on the crystal to form a point-contact diode. The product appears to be new old stock (NOS) and in its original box with instructions.
